So You’re in a Snowpocalypse, Now What?

Snowpocalypse, Snowmageddon, Snow way!  Kids love snow days, and while it maybe a little extra work for parents, they are a fantastic opportunity to build lasting memories with our little ones. Here’s a few great things to with kids on snow days!

1. A little education…  this is the storm of the century after all!

The National Weather Service meteorologists have predicted an epic blizzard calling for the heaviest snowfall in over a decade. Public schools have been canceled for the first time in 12 years!  At 9:05 this morning, Ginzer Zee of NBC Chicago reported that there is 19.5 inches of snow at O’Hare, that’s the 3rd Largest in recorded history.  The all-time Chicago record snowfall was set in 1967. Over the course of 35 hours, 23 inches of snow fell on Chicago.  Before the storm hit Chicago, there were record high temperatures and heavy rains.  Two days later,  on January 26th at 5:02 a.m., the snow started falling until 4 p.m. the next day!

2.  Cook a Special Meal

Traditions can start with the simplest things, and cooking together in an interactive way is a perfect way to make this activity lots of fun, tasty and of course nutritious!  Cooking is so much fun, so let’s get the kids involved!   There are all kinds of delicious recipes on our website!  We pair each recipe with a children’s book and a track from the SQ1 CD!  Make sweet treats like Organic Chocolate/Broccoli Cupcakes w/ Chocolate & Spinach Icing and Square One Pumpkin Sp-ICED Cookies to savory soups that will keep everyone toasty warm such as L,M,N,O,Pea Soup and Broccoli Cheese Soup with Quick Quinoa Dumplings. Are you cooking with Square One® Organics?  Send your favorite recipes and pictures of kitchen fun with the kids to Caitlin to be featured on our facebook page!

3.  Play in the Snow

Giving your child fresh air in this winter wonderland is encouraged, even if only for a couple minutes! Bundle up your child in their warmest snow gear and head out for a quick walk or play in the snow, even if only for a few minutes.  For an added bonus of fun take a spray bottle filled with some water and food coloring to add color to their snow designs! This will tucker your little one out for nap time for sure!

4.  Rock out to the SQ1 Children’s CD and Have a Dance Party!

The 4Ganics serve up a satisfyin’ helpin’ of wholesome tunes. Sink your teeth into this offering from Square One® Organics. Lovingly prepared by the Essential Vitawomen and Menerals.  Idol winner Lee DeWyze helped us record the Square One® Children’s CD and sings on every track!  Click here to purchase the SQ1 Children’s CD featuring the 4Ganics with Lee DeWyze or pick out your favorite on itunes.  Do you Rock Out to the 4 Ganics?
