Kid Zone Wrap Up

We had a great time last weekend at the 10th anniversary of the Taste of River North. Here’s a fun fact:  it actually started out as a block party, when the neighborhood was still mostly empty lots and a few converted loft buildings. The festival has a grown and grown since then and has even been professionally managed for the past three years!

“I moved to River North with my family in 2007 and first put together the kids’ activities for the Taste in 2009 – it was just one tent with an art activity and a few local kids’ businesses that held classes and demos. It was a totally DIY event and a total blast!  In 2010 we had 2 tents with a larger variety of kids’ activities and one booth rented by a pediatric dental clinic.” says River North Residents’ Association’s Development & Environmental Chair, Lana Berkovich.

SQ1 was happy to join the fun this past weekend and gave away samples of our sweet, refreshing Mango cups!  There were lots of activities for the whole family to enjoy at the Kid Zone at the Taste of River North! The first 250 people to come see Square One Organics’ booth took home our Square One reusable grocery bag filled with loot from our 2011 Super Tour Partners.
It was so fun to hang out with one of Super Tour partners Building Blocks Toy Store, all day and we had a wheel for Kids to spin to win some fun toys to take home.

Collectively, we raised about $1,000 which will go to Ogden, RNRA children’s programs, and to River North Moms! We came away with many great ideas for next year. We love the fact that it is still very much a neighborhood event, which reflects the interests and priorities of our parents. But we also want to use our resources to make a difference in our community.
