Wednesday Blog: Proud to be BPA-Free!

At Square One, we take every detail into consideration when we are dealing with the health of our little ones.  That’s why our 100% organic veggie and fruit purees are packaged in containers safe for your babies and kids.  Specifically, Square One® Organics is served in #5 recyclable polypropylene plastic food containers that do not contain Bisphenol-A (BPA).  BPA containing plastics have been shown to leach harmful compounds into the foods and drinks they contain.

As a mom, you always want to make sure your baby is eating healthy foods. I opted to go BPA-free for SQ1’s packaging because of all of the reasons moms choose BPA-free plastics – it’s safe because it doesn’t leach into the food the babies are eating.

Some researchers are convinced that ingesting BPA can interfere with development of the reproductive and nervous systems and possibly even promote cancer.  While older children and adults quickly eliminate the chemical through their kidneys, newborns and infants can retain it for much longer. Scientists pushing for a ban on the chemical argue that BPA mimics the effects of the hormone estrogen, interfering with growth.

At SQ1 we love EWG’s Skin Deep website.  EWG has actively advocated for health protective safety standards to limit BPA exposures for infants and children, and we are with them!! Check out Their analysis of the risks posed by BPA contamination of canned food and infant formula and documentation of BPA use by every major formula producer has even led to  a congressional Inquiry into the use of BPA in formula packaging and the adequacy of FDA’s safety assessment. Check out the EWG guidelines:
